Second of the Three, Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite was with David when they defied the Philistines gathered for battle, and the men of Israel withdrew (2 Samuel 23:9).
He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.— 2 Samuel 23:10 (KJV)
Standing When the Army Pulled Back
Israel's men fell back. Eleazar did not. He fought until his arm gave out and his grip locked on the hilt. When it was over, the army came back only to strip the slain. The victory had been won by one faithful man, and Scripture says plainly who gave it: the LORD.
The Barley Field at Pas-dammim
1 Chronicles 11:12–14 places the fight at Pas-dammim, in a plot of ground full of barley. When the people fled, they took their stand in the midst of the plot, defended it, and the LORD saved them by a great victory. (Ephes-dammim, the same region, is where David faced Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:1.)
